History

Somehow you have stumbled upon the webcomic "Blegd and Smeeg." You might ask yourself, "I wonder what this webcomic is about and the story behind it." But then again you might be asking yourself "Why the heck did I put mayonnaise in my underwear?" Both are valid questions, although this webpage will most probably only answer the former and not the latter.

"What is Blegd and Smeeg?" you ask? ... You didn't? Ok then I will stop pretending to be able to hear your questions and get on with the content.

Blegd and Smeeg is a webcomic created by Andrew Stoltzfus in late 2005. Although the actual comic was started in 2005, the characters were created almost a year before. Blegd and Smeeg are based off of two alien species from the classic computer game Commander Keen. Originally they were just two more of characters in Andrew's rather large repertoire of characters. As the year 2005 waxed, Andrew started to develop the characters, making distinct personalities and form. He didn't make a story as to why the two characters met, or even friends, until about mid 2005 when he shoved the idea away in the back of his brain along side the other crazy ideas such as bacon flavored ice cream.

About November 2005, Andrew was sitting in study hall with nothing to do. Being bored from drawing Commander Keen for the fifteenth time in a row, Andrew decided to make the introduction and beginning of the plot. Armed with his 2B pencil, knead eraser, and .005 micron marker, Andrew made the line art for the first comic for Blegd and Smeeg. Later that evening at home, Andrew colored in the comic, added text and the comic was born.

The characters:

Smeeg:

Smeeg's species is called "Yorp". These one-eyed green aliens , along with Gargs, are one of the main species on the planet Mars. At one point in history, the Yorps were slaves to the Gargs, until the Viking Spacecraft landed on the Despot Garg, killing it and freeing the Yorps. Yorps are extremely friendly and almost are never mean. Smeeg is the exception. Smeeg was born with incredible intelligence for a Yorp. Although due to his immense intelligence he could not deal with the complete idiocy of other Yorps and Gargs and became chronically depressed. Once the only ray of light for change on Mars, he is now reduced to a bum who likes making fun of people.

Blegd:

Blegd's species is called "Garg". Gargs aren't usually as friendly or docile as yorps. They are prone to bouts of extreme rage. At one point in history, Gargs kept the smaller, weaker Yorps as slaves, although now they are now the main species on Mars along with Yorps. Blegd, as with Smeeg, is the exception to this generalization. Blegd is the embodiment of fun. The light hearted, friendly garg. Also unlike Smeeg, Blegd is stupid.

Very... Stupid.
